Elise Hayes: Giving Up Single Review

Coming all the way from Nashville you have the ever so impeccable Elise Hayes. She’s a passionate singer/ songwriter who started to perform at the age of 12. Later on in life Hayes attended the esteemed Berklee College of Music as a vocal major. After graduating Elise relocated to Nashville to pursue a career as an artist and songwriter.

Hayes has written songs that have featured on numerous TV shows, such as ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy”, Freeform’s “The Bold Type”, MTV’s “Siesta Key,” and many more. Also this sublime songstress has further written songs for other prominent artists (Lucie Silvas “E.G.O”, Jill Andrews “Rust or Gold”), and most recently, toured the country as a background singer and keyboard player for country star, Carly Pearce, opening national tours for Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, and Thomas Rhett.

Debuting in 2015 with the single Waves, Elise has gone onto release a further three singles and these being Back To The Middle (2016), Float (2018) and most recently Giving Up.

So 12th April 2019 Elise Hayes independently unveiled her 4th single and this being Giving Up. In fact it was this tempting treat which resulted in me delving into Hayes’s back catalogue. My thoughts regarding this succulent song are promising, Giving Up is an empowering pop anthem aided by Elise’s whimsical vocal tones and lyrics which radiated plenty of attitude. Giving Up centred on the broken hearted, in this case Elise embraces her life away from her controlling ex “You never wanted me to get that tattoo/ I’m going to get that tattoo/ You never wanted me to have that haircut/ Well now I do”. Actually these wondrous words are aimed at this ex partner making him regret what he gave up.

Now here is what Hayes had to say “This song acts as a reminder to everyone who has ever been broken up with, that you’re worth so much more and sometimes someone leaving you is the greatest gift, even if it’s hard to see it at the time”.

I’ve listened to this sumptuous song multiple times and I’m well and truly hooked. The whole delivery uplifted my spirits and it had me envisioning Taylor Swift’s 1989 tune I Wish You Would.
