Introducing: Skeleton Woman

Skeleton Woman is a sublime singer/ songwriter/ producer who comes all the way from Los Angeles. She’s an impressive talent who made her debut in 2017 with the fresh sounding Savior, two years later she’s dropped a trio of tantalising releases and these being Tiny Shoulders (2017), Slumber Party (2018) and the Low Fee EP (2018).

The lady behind the moniker is Meghan Tartamella and she’s an impressive individual with a wealth of experience within the music industry. Not only is Meghan a exquisite musician but she possesses a degree in Psychology, she’s a Leadership Coach, yoga instructor and a meditation teacher.

Tartamella made her presence known in 2008, here she began to release music under her own name and unveiled the likes of the 9 track Open Universe EP and then you had The Space Between in 2013. Unfortunately all traces of Meghan’s solo venture have been removed from the internet. However I did manage to come across the Bandcamp link for The Space Between. Now this 5 track treat was blissful pop which literally took my breath away. Years later Tartamella then joined indie pop act Sleeplust and they went onto release a series of exceptional tunes.

When Meghan was in a band she experienced first hand the often abusive aspects of the male-dominated industry, this then resulted in Tartamella taking a step back. When the time came to return, Meghan was reborn from the ashes of her tragedy. Through that rebirth, she was inspired to create her solo project, Skeleton Woman (Sko), based on folklore about the circle of life.

Savior: 4th August 2019 saw the unveiling of Meghan’s brand new project, from this very moment she would be known as Skeleton Woman (aka SKo) and based on the first single she has an extremely bright future ahead of her. Anyhow this succulent song was dreamy pop at it’s best which Meghan delivered to perfection. Delivered at a slow but steady pace, the hauntingly beautiful Savior was an enchanting gem aided by Tartamella’s hushed/ raspy vocals and lyrics which hooked me all throughout.

Tiny Shoulders: 5th December 2017 saw the reveal of sophomore single Tiny Shoulders. Everything about this dazzling number was spot on, Tiny Shoulders had been perfectly written and the end result was incredibly mesmeric. Now this sparkling sophomore was a sleek R&B flavoured tune which worked wonders, in fact the whole sleekness enthralled me until the very end. Meghan’s vibrant vocals put me in a dream like state whilst those lyrics were drenched in heartbreak. In this case Meghan painted the picture of being in an unhealthy relationship and finally breaking free “I’m done carrying boulders/ On my Tiny Shoulders”.

Slumber Party: As we enter a brand new year, Skeleton Woman returned with a brand new single and this being Slumber Party. Released 20th June 2018 this tantalising treat was a pristine piece of pop which radiated plenty of chilled out vibes. Meghan’s vocal delivery was slick whilst those lyrics once again touched on the theme of heartbreak. From the line “Break my heart again” has me thinking that this girl has taken this guy back one to many times only for the heart to be broken again. However the girl in question has finally realised that this love was never meant to be.

Low Fee: 11th December 2018 saw Skeleton Women unveil the debut EP and this being Low Fee. This exquisite release comprised of 3 tracks which once again showcased her red hot potential. The opening cut was Faded and this being a perfectly produced piece of electronic pop. I found this tasty tune to be extremely enthralling, Meghan’s vocals were sweetly crisp and those infectious lyrics/ mesmeric video were brimming with a darkness. Choosy was a tremendous tune packed with a melody which packed a punch, vocals which oozed attitude and well written lyrics. At this moment in time it’s the only Skeleton Woman original to achieve an explicit rating and that mainly falls down to one word. Here Tartamella sings about how she has an image of her perfect guy, this then results in her being selective when it comes to meeting men. If they don’t meet the specification they are dismissed (hence the title Choosy). However writing someone off without giving it a go could be risky as there is a chance he could be the right guy. Things then came to a close with Low Fee and this being a fresh and funky jam which thoroughly enthralled me.

Planes: We then get to 16th September 2019, Skeleton Woman unleashed another new track and this being Planes. This compelling cut was actually my introduction to Skeleton Woman and at the same time I as left with the desire to hear more outstanding originals in the nearby future. Now everything about this superb single was top notch, that melody radiated chilled out vibes, those lyrics were spellbinding whist Meghan’s impeccable vocals had me envisioning Lana Del Rey to a degree. Anyhow these whimsical words detailed the rise and fall of a new relationship. Infatuation leads to courtship which eventually leads to the death of the relationship “I got my own plans right now/ You can hold tight if you like/ I’ve been holding it down for a while now”.

All in all Meghan Tartamella is onto a winner here, not only is she an impeccable performer but her songwriting abilities are on a whole other level. Each of her extraordinary compositions left me invested until the very end.

Anyhow Skeleton Woman is an impeccable new project and I for one cannot wait for the next phase.
