Ransom and the Subset: Sara Kandi Single Review

30th March 2023 saw the ever so talented Ransom and the Subset return with a brand new single and this being Sara Kandi. Anyhow this group are based in Seattle, Washington and the frontman/ brain child is RanDair Porter. Not only is he a sublime singer, he also writes all of his own material. Other than Perfect Crime and Sara Kandi, Porter also has material from 2014s debut LP No Time To Lose which highlights his abilities to construct phenomenal songs. Other than RanDair, Ransom and the Subset comprise of Michael Lewis (Guitar), , Graham Maby (Guitars) and Michael Musburger (Drums).

Having been impressed by last months Perfect Crime single, I was extremely eager to dive into this new track and once again it’s a real belter. Well this tantalising track is yet another tasty morsel of what to expect from forthcoming album Perfect Crimes and it doesn’t disappoint in the slightest.

Anyhow I’ve got plenty of praise for Sara Kandi, I’ve listened to this original an awful lot of times and once again it’s an addictive slice of pop meets rock. Now you had a blissful sun blushed melody, Porter’s vocal tones were a literal breath of fresh air whilst those story telling lyrics had been perfectly penned. Basically it told the story of infactuation, Sara Kandi works at the bank and once small talk is made with the unnamed gentleman that’s the start of the infactuation. The fact this guy doesn’t introduce himself to Sara makes me think he’s low on self confidence or the age difference is weighing on his mind “Now Sara you’re just nineteen/ You know I am willing but not quite free/ I’m hoping someday you’ll run with me .. Sara Kandi”.

Sara Kandi is available from iTunes (USA/ UK) or Bandcamp
