Jenny JAM: Better Than You Single Review

on

Jennifer Moxham adopts the moniker Jenny Jam, she’s a London born Los Angeles based singer/ songwriter who packs plenty of promise. This emerging soulful pop songstress made her debut August 2019 with the single Morning Bottle. Now this was a thumping anthem which documented Jenny’s struggles to adapt into the Los Angeles scene. “The message is ultimately that no matter what happens to you, who screws you over, who takes everything from you, abuses you, tries to destroy you or destroy relationships that mean everything to you; no one can take away who YOU are. Always stay true to yourself and believe in you, then you will rise out of the ashes no matter what happens”.

Now 3rd March 2020 saw the unveiling of sophomore single Better Than You. This number was in fact my introduction to Jenny Jam, I was so enthralled this led to me delving into the back catalogue and discovering debut Morning Bottle.

Well Better Than You was produced by Emmy award-winning Ikuma Matsuda (Missy Elliot, Nicki Minaj) and the end product was a literal masterpiece. I’ve got nothing but praise for this superb single, in fact on the very first listen hooked me instantaneously. Better Than You was a well written anthem aided by Moxham’s punchy vocals and super sassy lyrics which painted the scenario vividly in my mind. Now these empowering words detailed being trapped in an abusive/ controlling relationship and finally finding the courage to make the clean break so you can be with someone who’s worth your time “Bad boys who can break them like toys/ He don’t say who I should be/ I had to set myself free/ You tried to fight back/ Instead of facing the facts/ Now you so lonely, who you gonna be without me”.

Actually this terrific tune had me envisioning Adele’s Rumour Has It.

Better Than You is available from iTunes (UK/ USA)
