Olivia Penalva: I Choose This Love Single Review

Olivia Penalva is a talented singer/ songstress who comes all the way from Vernon, BC. Music is something she’s extremely passionate about, Olivia actually started to write her own material at the age of 11!!!. As an unsigned artist Penalva has already placed in the top 100 at Canadian radio with singles, “Christmas for Two” and “Outshine the Stars”. Recent single “Skylines (The Madlucky Remix)” has even earned two Bell Media Future Star awards in addition to charting top 40 in three different formats and amassing over 5,000 spins. Plus she dropped her debut Weightless EP last May and this was literally a sugary sweet pop gem.

Beyond radio airplay, she’s placed in the top 10 at Ottawa Blues Festivals’ “She’s The One” competition, was recently awarded the Factor Grant for the Artist Development Program, and received a scholarship to attend ArtistMax mentored by David Foster, Ken Caillat and Colbie Caillat.

Aside from all of that 1st May 2017 saw Olivia release a brand new single and this being I Choose This Love. Just listening to this tasty tune leaves me lost for words. Now I Choose This Love was a whimsical pop ballad aided by Penalva’s candy coated vocals and infectious dreamy lyrics. This song is about allowing love to be your escape from the painful realities of life and just listening to this compelling cut uplifted my spirits.

Those vibrant verses had a slight pace to them and at the same time they were incredibly sweet “When the pain is as deep as the ocean/ If the waters rush over our heads/ when the hurt won’t stop like waves in motion/ I’ll hold you in the flood/ Never turn when times get tough/ I Choose This Love”.

All in all I Choose This Love was an entrancing pop anthem which showcased Olivia’s sublime songwriting talents.
