Harry Pane is a spectacular independent singer/ songwriter who comes all the way from Northamptonshire. Now based in Walthamstow, this Friday (7/4) will see Pane unleash his brand new EP. The Wild Winds was recorded with Dani Castelar (Paolo Nutini, REM, Snow Patrol) in Valencia at the start of the year. It was funded by Island Records after Harry was picked as the winner of #Roadtothe100Club, a competition organised by PRS for Music, with judges including former PRS chairman Guy Fletcher O.B.E and Annie Christensen (A&R Island Records).
This mini album compromises of 5 tasty tunes which showcases Pane’s extraordinary song writing abilities. Fletcher Bay was smothered in plenty of folk goodness, the melody was chilled out and then you had Pane’s vocals which were both rich and distinctive. The lyrics on the other hand were packed with plenty of emotion, this beautiful song was a heart-warming tribute to Harry’s father who sadly passed away last year. Old Friend was pure indie rock which resulted in something extremely entrancing. Pane’s raspy vocals were pristine and at the same time they packed a weighty punch. Everything about this tune was sheer perfection, those lyrics were incredibly contagious and so sweet at the same time “Old Friend if our eyes meet again/ I’m never going to let go of your hands/ Old Friend if our eyes meet again/ Well it will be the same as it’s always been”. Track 3 came in the shape of Real Souls and this felt as if it’s a folk hoedown. Played at a blitzing pace this song oozes plenty of promise and Harry’s unique folk vocal tones were crisp/ hypnotising. Into The Dark was a compelling jam which again resonated plenty of rock vibes. The catchy lyrics were exceptional and they can quite easily have you moving on the spot, there was a fuzziness to Harry Pane’s vocals and finally the combination of drums and electric guitar created something rather edgy. The Wild Winds then ends what had been a startling EP. This tune was so wonderful, there was a lightness to that charming melody and then you had those delectable lyrics which had me smiling from beginning to end. Finally Harry’s vocals made me think of Marcus Mumford.
