Originally from Middletown, New York but based in London, UK is the talented singer/ songwriter Norma Jean Martine.
Martine has written top 10 hit Quando Una Stella Muore for the Italian singer Giorgia which featured on her 2013 Italian number 1 double platinum album Senza Pauraand, In Bilico which featured on 2013 Italian X Factor winner Michele Bravi’s debut top 10 album A Passi Piccoli, Come Un Attimo Fa on Marco Mengoni’s Italian number 1 triple platinum album Parole in circolo and the track Time Of My Life as the iTunes bonus track, Into The Light which featured on Lena’s album Crystal Sky which was released last year (Lena won Eurovision for Germany back in 2010 with Satellite), Lonely Nights (Hey You) on former Pussycat Dolls Ashley Roberts’ 2014 album Butterfly Effect, We Ain’t Dead Yet and Paint which feature on Pablo Nouvelle’s album All I Need (Norma also sings them as well) and then finally you have Time Of My Life which is the title track to the latest album by Ronan Keating.
I first had the pleasure of witnessing Norma live when she supported on Lissie’s tour back in 2014. I would go as far to say Martine’s genre is bluesy pop which works wonders. Despite having been in the music industry for quite a while NJM has recently signed record deal with Capitol Records, the first label release being the 4 track Animals EP which along with Animals featured Butterfly’s Dream, a remix of Animals and then you have an acoustic version of the fast paced upbeat Only In My Mind.
Even though she has an EP, Norma has a host of older material which consist of Game Over, With You, Still In Love With You, As Far As My Heart Can See, No More Alone and then you have No More which was released as a single back in 2013. It was that song which was used as the CW Network fall trailer in the USA and Fox 8’s winter trailer in Australia.
Nowadays if you go to see Norma Jean Martine perform she has a whole host of new material. Having attended the show at Birthdays in 2014 and The Islington in 2015 I have to say I was utterly mesmerised with what had been showcased. New cuts such as Hang My Hat, Sons And Daughters, I Want You To Want Me and the emotional ballad Don’t Make Me Miss You have to feature on the debut album. Norma has this really good tune called Pushing Up The Weeds but that is one song which will not appear on the LP.
All in all Norma Jean Martine is a talented 23 year old who has a phenomenal distinct vocal range plus she has the ability of writing killer songs. Also I must mention she has also supported both Tom Odell, Nick Mulvey, Eliza and the Bear, Nina Persson and Gaz Coombes.
Having attended the sold out show at The Lexington I have a few titbits:
- The next single will be No Gold which will get released this April.
- The next Norma Jean Martine gig will hopefully be in May.
- The debut album will drop this fall.
