Introducing: Ekkah

Recently signed to RCA, Birmingham duo Rebekah Pennington and Rebecca Wilson are no strangers to the music scene as they were part of the indie rock band The Arcadian Kicks. Formed in 2006 this 5 piece were managed by the drummer of The Charlatans and this being the late Jon Brookes who succumbed to brain cancer in 2013.

The quintet then disbanded and these longtime friends formed the Ekkah. If you like your synth pop well this is a band for you. Despite the main focus on both of them, during live shows they are actually backed by three guys. Having played a host of music festivals 2014 saw Ekkah support the one and only Jess Glynne resulting in them gaining more fans. Also they have performed at the Hyde Park British Summertime shows twice, the main acts on these dates were Arcade Fire in 2014 and 2015 being the amazing Kylie Minogue. The music that they perform makes you feel good and what I especially like is the fact they are actually having fun whilst showcasing their material.

November 2014 saw the release of debut EP Last Chance To Dance which was released by Year One Recordings (UK) and Honeymoon (USA). This EP featured 4 startling tracks, you had 3 demos Ex-Change, Holiday Blues and Only U 4 Me plus you had the lead single Last Chance To Dance which open things up.

Ex-Change was a smooth cut which was lathered by hypnotic medlodies. Holiday Blues was a spectacular cut aided by superb vocals, impressive riffs and hooks which well will leave you hooked. Compared to the other tracks on the EP this had a darker feel to it. Finally you had Only U 4 Me which was a slow and sensual R&B jam.

Ekkah have the world at their feet and out of everything I’ve heard my favourite original of theirs has to be the sun blushed Last Chance To Dance. This may sound like a lazy choice as I have heard the likes of Home Alone, We Can Grow, Figure It Out, Cindy, Forget Me Knots, Heatwaves and Carry On. Last Chance To Dance has glistening lyrics which are every so mesmerising plus plenty of disco pop vibes flowed from this cut.

Later this year Ekkah will be embarking on a October/ November tour and if you do go prepare to have FUN.
